QUESTION 11

Yes, AI Will Make Your Boston Firm Sound Like Everyone Else. Here's How Not To Be Everyone Else.

Boston small business owner working through a real brand strategy session.

Let's get one thing straight before anything else. I love Boston. Even when the Red Sox beat the Yankees, I was happy for Boston. When Tom Brady won all those Super Bowls, nothing but respect. When the Celtics and the Bruins put my teams through the wood chipper, still nothing but respect. I'm Peter Anthony, an Italian guy from NYC who lives in Salt Lake City now, and no, AI did not write this.

What I love about Boston is what I love about this whole country. You're gritty. You play hard, work hard, win hard, and you never quit, even when everyone expects you to. This is one of the hardest cities in the world to make it in, and I know people who've done it: friends who helped build the internet at MIT, friends who changed how mortgages get written and land gets developed, friends who just grind it out and play hard every single day.

So what I'm about to say might sting if you're from here. There's a silver lining in it too, and it only goes to the people who actually take it.

The League Is Shrinking, And Nobody's Pretending Otherwise

Here's what's actually happening. The league is shrinking. AI is cutting jobs right now, period, and I've said this a hundred times: the winners are the ones who learn to put AI to work, and a lot of those winners are already winning the game of business. But here's the part that changes everything if you're the underdog: this might be your best and last shot at a seat at the table. Thank you, AI.

Every Team Just Went From Twelve Players To Three

Picture the Celtics and the Knicks. Now imagine the league stops needing a twelve man roster and only needs three. What happens to every other team? The market floods with talent overnight. Teams priced out of the one player who could actually change their season can suddenly afford him.

That's what's happening to the talent pool in your city right now, this week, not someday.

AI Will Make You As Broke As Everyone Else. Unless.

So here's my honest advice to Boston small businesses. AI will not only make you sound like everyone else, it will make you as broke as everyone else. Unless, and I want you to hear this clearly, you learn to put it to work, and you do the unglamorous work of building your source of truth and understanding where your buyer actually stands today, not where you assumed they stood five years ago. AI exploits mediocrity and drives it at scale. Your city is about to fill up with more talent than it's ever had, at a fraction of what it used to cost. The reset is real. The stakes are real. The opportunity is bigger than both.

Three Things Separate The Winners From The Broke

Getting three things in place right now, and actually using them, changes the world you're about to live in.

First, build a better Brand Guide than you've ever had. Be honest: the last one was probably built by someone else because you were too busy to sit down and do it yourself. Two to three deep hours, no AI, and get your real brand together: the truth of your business's DNA, where you're standing today, where you actually want to go.

Once that's done, you've built the first piece of your source of truth, and the process is already moving. Next you need an Avatar. This is Boston. You don't need some overly niched fantasy of a buyer. You need real data, the real person, and you need to know what's actually making them tick, what's making them decide, and how to talk to them in the language they'll actually hear. You need to know how hard that family worked to buy that 1.6 million dollar home in Newton, and what they are doing to pay 15k per year in taxes. It's not easy when the demographic or psychographic you picked was wrong from the start, and that's exactly the gap this closes. You need to know roughly one in four employed Newton residents works in management, business, or financial occupations. That's over 12k people contributing to the incredible high taxes and mortgage rates IN ONE Boston Suburb. These are real people staying up at night, they are not thinking about whether they can get a reservation at some fancy XOXO Sushi Bar or Tartufo Italian or if they can keep their membership at Charles River or Brae Burn Country Club. These people are wondering if they can keep their kids in school, if their life's work will hold any legacy. That is your people and it is personal to them as it is to you. Your marketing needs to speak to them not at them. MMA AI does just that, because people matter.

Then there's your Brand Voice: the dos and don'ts of how you actually say it, and how it needs to be said. Everyone online is screaming about being authentic and never actually posting anything that sounds like them. Look around. Most of what's out there is a carbon copy of everyone else selling the same thing the same way. They found a psychological trick that works, and they're all running it into the ground together.

This Is Not The Voice Of A Boston Entrepreneur

You worked for every bit of this. You went through the mud. You've got the bruises, the cuts, the scars to prove it. Don't let AI fold you into the mediocrity. Own your destiny by actually using what's in front of you. I know you get it. I know your belief runs deep, I've seen it, and my poor Yankees have been the victim of it more than once. Tom Brady would probably have nine rings if not for Eli Manning and New York believing in a miracle nobody else believed in.

If you ask AI the same generic question, the same generic way, and expect a different outcome, yes, you'll sound like everyone else. But that's not the voice of a Boston entrepreneur. I know it isn't.

If you want to do this the right way, start with the free working session: ninety minutes, live, no charge.
