No Apologies / Facing The Fear

QUESTION 23

Is a Scarcity Mindset Costing My Business Money?

Peter Anthony beside an infographic: $900 arrived with, 80% mindset, 20% strategy

Most owners would never call themselves scarcity thinkers.

They work hard. They pay their people. They show up.

Then you look at the decisions. The ad they never ran because the month was slow. The price they never raised because a customer might leave. The hire they keep putting off until things settle down.

Things never settle down. That is the cost of scarcity. Not a feeling, a pattern of smaller bets.

Scarcity does not show up as fear. It shows up as smaller decisions, made faster, for less money.

Here is what I have learned in nearly forty years of building and coaching. Abundance is not having more. It is seeing more. More options, more people who could help, more ways to get from where you are to where you want to be.

Money follows process and timing. Mindset decides whether you can see the process at all.

Dani Schenatto is the clearest example I have sat across from. She landed in America with $900. Today she sells real estate in Park City and founded Cozy Method. On the Utah Business Spotlight she walked me through the part in between.

Nine hundred dollars is not a business plan. It is a decision about what you are willing to see.

Three changes move an owner from scarcity to command.

Change the words you use with yourself. "I want" becomes "I will." "I am trying" becomes "This is what I am doing." The second one is the biggest change, because trying leaves the door open to stop.

Change what you measure. If your scorecard is the car, the house and the title, you will feel behind forever. Measure the decision you made this week that you would have avoided last year.

Change who you learn from. I am dyslexic, and I read anyway. Books first, then tools, then mentors. I picked mentors who had built what I wanted to build, and I checked that how they lived matched what they taught. You become the people you spend time with.

None of this is soft. It is the first marketing decision you make, before a single post goes out. Marketing is 80% mindset and 20% strategy. Owners who believe there is not enough market for them write marketing that sounds like it.

Where you are now is not where you have to stay. The plan starts with what you are willing to see.

What is one decision you have been avoiding because the month felt slow?
