QUESTION 12

What Is a Customer Avatar, and Why Does AI Need One First?

One person in warm golden light, singled out of an anonymous crowd

An Avatar Is Not a Demographic

"Women 35 to 55 with household income over $100,000" isn't an avatar. It's a spreadsheet. You can't write to a spreadsheet, and neither can AI.

An avatar sounds like this: Karen runs a four-person bookkeeping firm. She's great at the work and terrible at talking about it. She's tried posting on Facebook twice and quit both times, because it felt like shouting into an empty room. She doesn't want to be famous. She wants three more clients who pay on time.

Read that, and you already know what to say to Karen. You know what she's afraid of and what she'd click on. That's the difference.

Why AI Needs Your Avatar Before It Writes a Word

AI is a brilliant writer with no idea who's listening. Ask it for a post with no avatar and it writes for the average reader, which means nobody in particular. Hand it Karen, and every sentence gets sharper: her words, her objections, her Tuesday-night frustration.

The avatar is the first piece of your source of truth, alongside your Brand Voice and your Brand Guide. Every piece of content you ask AI for should carry it. Every one.

"Peter Anthony breaks it down into very simple steps. Your avatar, who are you speaking to, what's their story, and how do you get their attention." | Brian, workshop attendee

How to Build Your Avatar

1. Start with your best client, not your biggest. Pick the one you'd clone if you could: they value the work, pay on time and send referrals.

2. Give them a name and a life. Their business or household, their role, what their week looks like.

3. Write their problem in their words, not yours. You say "lead generation." They say "the phone stopped ringing."

4. List what they've already tried, and why it failed. This is where your message earns trust.

5. Name the fear under the problem. It's rarely about money alone. It's about looking foolish, falling behind, or letting their family down.

6. Describe what winning looks like to them. Not your deliverable. Their Friday afternoon, once the problem is solved.

One page. That's it. It will change every piece of marketing you make from here on.

Watch One Get Built Live

In the first twenty minutes of the free working session, we build a named avatar from a real business in the room, start to finish. It's the most convincing part of the hour, because you watch it work on someone else's business first. Then you build your own.
